We gathered that the fire started at about 1am from the last floor of the building and spread to other floors of the Hall II of the female hostel located inside the main campus of the university at Ugbowo.

MAN CUT OFF 12 YEAR OLD BOY PENIS FOR RITUAL

The suspect was alleged to have cut off little Ayuba’s p*n**s and vanished with the organ after begging the boy to accompany him to the bush in the village to fetch firewood.

The boy, who was also hacked in the throat by his captor, miraculously survived the ordeal after being hospitalised for nearly three months leaving him without John Thomas.
Narrating his ordeal in the hand of the stonyhearted man, dejected Ayuba said they were going quietly when something inexplicable happened to him and he went blank. According to him, when he came to, he found himself in deep pains. His p*n**s was gone and he felt pains on his throat.

He said: “The distance between the bush and the Mararaba Liman Katagum community is about one and a half kilometres.
“On their arrival in the bush, Ayuba stepped on a thorn and requested Tukur to remove the torn from his foot. But on approaching the boy, he removed a very sharp object and cut his throat as well as his private part.”

Ayuba who is still recuperating at home, said he started crying for help in Fulfude language, asking the older man why he had brought him to the bush in order to kill him.
It was gathered that Tukur, after cutting of Ayuba’s manhood flee to an unknown destination leaving the boy in the pool of his blood who narrowly made his way to Mararaba Liman Katagum.

However, the father and some elders of the community reported the incident at the Yalwa police station, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately assigned a police constable to convey Ayuba to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi along with some of his family members, including his father.
After the doctors treated Ayuba and examined his condition, his father was advised to take his son to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe where he has been hospitalised since January.
Halilu, Ayuba’s father said: “I have spent over N168, 000 for the treatment of my son. It has not been easy for us.”

It was learnt that the father of Tukur, the man who allegedly cut off Ayuba’s p*n**s, has been invited by the police.
“The DPO sent for the father of Tukur who resides in Sabon Garin near Kundat village in Duguri district of Alkaleri Local Government area. His father was ordered by the DPO to bring his son since January, but up till now he has not produced his son to the police,” Halilu said.
Ayuba’s family is not happy with the police for what they tagged as the law enforcement agency’s nonchalant attitude towards the inhuman act.

They indeed expressed concern that the police did not obtain any statement since the incident occurred on Januray 3. The family also observed that that the police are not making enough efforts to arrest Tukur who has since fled the area.

BABY FACTORY IN AKWA IBOM | POLICE UNCOVER

POLICE in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, have uncovered a mysterious factory where young girls are made to conceive, give birth and the babies later sold to suspected ritualists and other members of the public in Uruan Local Government Area of the state.

The new babies, Nigerian Tribune gathered, are collected from the young mothers as soon as they are delivered, even as each mother is paid N70,000 after each successful delivery.

The state Commissioner of Police Umar Gwadabe who briefed newsmen on the development and other breakthroughs recorded by the state police command, disclosed that the said illegal home is owned by one Dr Wisdom Mbaba and is located at Ekpene Ukim, in Uruan Local Government Area of the state.

Gwadabe said following a tip-off from a concerned citizen of the area, the police raided the place and about seven young women, between the ages of 18 and 20 were rescued from the said operation, while the suspected proprietor of the home, Dr Mbaba, escaped but his wife, Effiong, was arrested.

One of the girls rescued, Aniebet Okon Sunday, told Nigerian Tribune that she had gone there to abort a five-month-old pregnancy but the doctor told her to stay with him, promising that he would pay her for the baby, which she agreed to and was paid N70,000 after delivery.

“My friend took me to Doctor Wisdom when I was pregnant and wanted to do abortion but the doctor said I should stay and give birth. I

did not even see the baby that I gave birth to. I don’t know if it was a boy or girl. It was taken away before I was able to stand up. But doctor gave me N70, 000,” Miss Sunday narrated.

Nigerian Tribune gathered from reliable sources that young girls wishing to abort unwanted pregnancies were lured to the factory for abortion operation, after which the unwanted babies are negotiated and sold to ritualists by the factory dealers.

However, Dr Mbaba’s wife Effiong who is currently in police custody, admitted that her husband was a specialist in abortion but claimed he had stopped doing the business for some years now.

Asked whether she was running the business with her husband she said, “No, I don’t know anything about the business. I run a shop where I sell foodstuffs and others things.”

However, the state commissioner of police said his men had been equipped to contain any security challenges in the state.

FATHER KILLED A BABY FOR NOT BEING A BABY BOY

Baby Afreen: The three-month-old died at Vani Vilas Hospital in Bangalore after her own father allegedly beat her because she was born a girl instead of the son he desired

For about a week, she tried hard to hold on and fight hard. But allegedly brutalised by her father for being born a girl, she stood little chance. Baby Neha Afreen died after a cardiac arrest in a government hospital in Bangalore on Wednesday morning [Apr. 11].

The three-month-old baby was admitted to the Vani Vilas Hospital on Thursday night, April 5, with a severe head injury, dislocated neck and bite and burn marks on her body.

Her father Umar Farooq, a car painter, is accused of inflicting the injuries on her because he wanted a male child. Though Afreen had showed signs of recovery on Tuesday, her condition deteriorated by evening because of repeated convulsions.
Devastated: Mother Reshma Bano wails as she holds the body of her three-month-old daughter Neha Afreen outside a hospital morgue in Bangalore

'She was in semi-comatose state since Tuesday evening. We had put her on life support system. Unfortunately, she could not make it', said Dr Some Gowda, medical superintendent of the hospital.

The hospital authorities were awaiting a team of doctors from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences for assistance because the baby had suffered internal head injuries.
Heartbroken: A relative cries over the body of three-month-old Neha Afreen after she died from injuries allegedly inflicted by her father

But Afreen could no longer fight. She had hurried respiration of 30-40 per minute against the normal 20-25 and also pathycardia, or increased heart rate.

She breathed her last at 11.10 am shortly after a cardiac arrest.
Neha's Mother Reshma was afraid to contact police after she claimed her husband attacked their daughter

The baby's mother, 19-year-old Reshma Banu, was inconsolable when the doctors broke the news to her. Afreen was her only child and she had been in a state of shock since Thursday.

WIFE WITH BOYFRIEND BEAT HUSBAND TO DEAD

Tragedy struck in Ikpamodo Village, Enugu-Ezike in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State last weekend when a housewife, (names withheld), her three children and the woman’s boyfriend, allegedly beat the husband to death.

The deceased was a popular bicycle repairer in the town. He was a Catholic.
His offence: The late bicycle repairer was accused by his widow of disturbing her with his early morning prayers. The widow is a native doctor.

A family source told Daily Sun that the woman, had allegedly been tormenting her husband and even built her own house, demarcating her husband’s compound with a big fence.

On the day, the man was murdered, she was said to have told her husband that she was not comfortable with the manner in which he had been disturbing her charms by saying long prayers every morning. But the husband, a devout Roman Catholic, told her that he had never supported her practice as a native doctor.

A serious argument ensued between them which led to physical attack. Another man, said to be her boyfriend, who is also a native doctor, was alleged to have joined her in attacking the deceased. The man’s children rushed to the scene and instead of separating their parents, allegedly assisted in beating their father with sticks and logs of wood. The man slumped and died. Sensing that her husband had died, the widow, her children as well as her “external husband” took to their heels, abandoning the man’s body..

Neighbours and villagers arrived the scene. They took the body to the Ogrute General Hospital, but the doctor confirmed him dead. His body was later deposited at the hospital’s mortuary. The matter was reported at Ogrute police station. The suspects were promptly detained before being transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Enugu. There was tension in the community. The youths organized themselves and set the six-room apartment of the widow ablaze.

One of the irate youths who spoke to our reporter, but did not want to be named, said: “This is an abomination in our community. Nobody has ever committed such sacrilege. That is the reason we decided to take the law into our own hands and burn her building to serve as a deterrent to any other person who may try such evil act again”
When our reporter visited Ikpamodo community yesterday, the man had been buried even as normalcy is gradually returning there.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ogrute Division, Buulus Maaji, was not available for comments when our reporter visited the station. The Police Public Relations Officer, state command, Ebere Amaraizu, said on phone that he was yet to be officially briefed on the incident.

MAN ACCUSED WIFE OF SLEEPING WITH THE FATHER

While waiting for the Easter celebration to commence properly last Sunday, residents of Lambe Street, Ago-Palace Way, Okota area of Lagos State were jolted from sleep, following loud painful cries from a neighbour’s apartment at 3, Lambe Street.

They rushed into the apartment only to realize that the scream was that of a woman who was being brutalized by her husband over claims that she was flirting with his own father. To their chagrin, they also found the lifeless body of their one-year-old male child lying in a pool of blood.

CONFUSION as police arrive: Confused, some of the neighbours quickly rushed out and contacted the police at Ago-Okota Division on sighting the corpse. On arriving the scene, detectives arrested the man and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital. The wife, who was simply identified as Mrs. Nnamdi, is currently lying unconscious in an hospital. The husband allegedly used hot pressing iron to inflict wounds all over her body.

A neighbour who spoke with Crime Alert said the man, identified as Mr. Henry Nnamdi, had alleged that the wife was sleeping with his own father and that the only child they had was not his biological child. A neighbour who craved for anonymity told Crime Alert: “The man killed his baby boy by hitting his head on the ground. The day was still dark when we started hearing screams from their apartment. Some of us who came out of our apartments following the screams contemplated whether to go in or not, but while we were still doing this, the screams intensified and the woman started shouting that he was using hot pressing iron on her. We then forced the door open. When we got in, we found the woman tied to a chair and their baby was lying dead on the floor. Those who couldn’t stand the sight ran out and contacted the police.”

Allegation of infidelity: Police sources said the incident blew open after the man allegedly tortured the wife following a quarrel over alleged infidelity on the part of the woman. The man allegedly held the woman hostage in their bed room, tied her to a chair and plugged a pressing iron which he used to run over all her body including her private part.

Swift arrival of policemen

Screams from the woman attracted the attention of neighbors who quickly alerted the police at Ago-Okota Station. A team of policemen swiftly arrived the scene and arrested the man after which they rushed the woman to a nearby hospital where doctors are battling to revive her from unconsciousness.

Father dumbfounded: Eyewitness account said the father of the man who quickly rushed to the police station on hearing the news was dumbfounded when he was told that the son perpetrated the heinous act over allegations that he, the father, was sleeping with the son’s wife. At this point, the visibly shocked man lamented publicly that it is a taboo for him to indulge in that kind of act, stating that he had severally in the past warned the son to stop maltreating the wife. He reportedly disclosed further that the wife had run to his house several times to escape being brutalized by the husband and each time, he would not only rebuke his son but provide money for his family so that there would be peace.

At the time of this report, the wife of the man whom hospital sources said may have suffered first degree burns, was still lying unconscious in a private hospital at Ago-Palace way, while her husband is in police cell.

A neighbor reacts: Efforts made to speak with the father of the suspect were not successful as the man was said to had left the police station in tears, agonizing openly the fate that befell members of his family. But a neighbour at their 3, Lambe Street, apartment corroborated claims of the man’s father stating that the father had been mediating between the son and his wife for a long time.

According to the man who simply identified himself as Papa Ginika, “I am going to allow the man’s father, whenever you meet him, to tell you the character of his son because he knows him very well. But, on the allegation that the father was sleeping with his wife, Henry was only trying to rope the man into this mess.

“I know that man very well and I can vouch for him. He can not sleep with his son’s wife for any reason. But I know that the son’s grievance is that his father has not been supporting him each time he maltreated his wife. He normally comes here to abuse his son and ask him to stop beating the wife.

Too many quarrels

“They got married only two years ago and I really don’t know what actually went wrong in that marriage. But I discovered that the man and his wife have been having too many quarrels and his father has been coming to settle the crisis. I really don’t know what got into Henry’s head the day he did that. I see no reason why he would kill his only child that I usually see crawl around the compound with other kids. And since this incident occurred, I have been trying to erase the picture of the woman carrying her child. When I saw the dead child, I was the one looking for a jute bag (Ghana-Must Go) to carry the corpse for burial.”

Concerted efforts made to speak with the suspect inside the cell failed as the police insisted that he could only speak when the case gets to SCID, Panti. When Crime Alert visited the hospital where the woman was admitted, doctors said she was still unconscious and advised that the police should authorize all visitations. It was also not possible to trace the father of the suspect as he was said to have gone back to his own house.

Police reacts

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police spokesman, Joseph Jaiyaoba told Crime Alert that the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, today for further investigations assuring that justice must prevail at the end of the day.

US PRIEST ACCUSED IN 700 SEXUAL ABUSE CASES

In Washington, about 700 people launched new claims of sexual abuse against Catholic clergy in the United States last year, including 21 who are still minors, according to a new report released by US bishops. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops said in the report released Tuesday that of the 683 adults who reported allegations for the first time, “most allegations reported today are of incidents from previous decades.”

Sixty-eight per cent of the complaints relate to events that took place between 1960 and 1984 — the majority from 1975 to 1979, the report says. Many of the clergy members accused have since died, or been relieved of their church duties. More than 280 of them had been accused in the past, it said.

Of the 21 accusations made by minors, seven were considered credible by the police and three were determined to be false, the report said. Three other cases were still under investigation. The Church spent $144 million dealing with the scandal in the United States in 2011 — including attorneys’ fees, settlements, and support for offenders — a decrease from $150 million in 2010.

The Roman Catholic Church has been rocked for several years now by a series of scandals involving allegations in pedophilia, including in Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Germany and the United States. The report is based on an audit of the Catholic dioceses in the United States by the StoneBridge Business Partners.

The audit has been undertaken every year since the Church was rocked by pedophilia claims in 2002, when the then archbishop of Boston admitted to sheltering a priest accused in multiple abuse cases.

The Church must continue to be vigilant. The Church must do all she can never to let abuse happen again. And we must all continue to work with full resolve toward the healing and reconciliation of the victims/survivors – Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, the president of the bishops’ conference.

The publication of the report comes several weeks after the start of the first trial of an American bishop who sheltered pedophile priests. Monsignor William Lynn, who was responsible for supervising more than 800 priests in Philadelphia, stands accused of failing to report allegations of sexual abuse and failing to keep two priests away from minors. Lynn faces up to 14 years in prison.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR KILLING HER MOTHER

The police have arrested a 38-year-old woman, Bolanle Abiola, for allegedly killing her septuagenarian mother in the Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Bolanle was arrested with an unidentified male accomplice for allegedly killing the 70-year-woman in the Pedepo area of Imeko.

The suspect, who trades in clothes in Abeokuta, the state capital, allegedly committed the crime about 9:00pm last Wednesday when she visited her mother in her residence at Imeko.

Family members who pleaded anonymity told SUNDAY PUNCH that Bolanle, who had often accused her mother of using diabolical means to prevent her from finding a suitor, once threatened to kill the septuagenarian over the matter.

According to the family members, Bolanle and the unidentified male companion had, on Wednesday night, arrived at her mother’s residence pretending to have come on a visit.

Thinking that the male companion was her daughter’s fiancé, the deceased mother was said to have warmly welcomed the couple into her house.

It was further learnt that Bolanle was arrested on Thursday when she attempted to flee the town in a commercial vehicle.

The Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said 456 Nigerians may continue to languish in Brazilian jails, if the government does not have a bilateral agreement with the country.

In an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, Dabiri-Erewa said about 100 Nigerians were also in detention in Ukraine for various allegations, adding that the country had called on Nigeria for their repatriation but this has not taken place.

The ex-broadcaster added that Brazil had invited Nigeria to sign a repatriation treaty with it since 2009 but that Nigeria was yet to respond due to its lackadaisical attitude towards protecting the rights of its citizens.

Dabiri-Erewa, who was in Brazil recently on a fact-finding mission, stated that a 72-year-old grandmother, Fausat Aosede, 13 women and 443 other Nigerians languished in Brazilian jail for drug-related offences.

“The Nigerians may stay longer in jail because Nigeria does not have a repatriation agreement with Brazil. The country sent a document to facilitate the agreement in 2009 but it is still awaiting a response from Nigeria. Should Nigeria have an agreement with Brazil, their release will be sped up.”

The lawmaker however said Aosede, who was in Brazil for medical treatment and was later held for drug trafficking, would be repatriated as the Brazilian law disallowed detention of persons over 70.

On the fate of others, Dabiri-Erewa said, “We need to have a roundtable discussion with Brazil and sign an agreement before we can repatriate our people who are either serving jail terms in detention or on trial for various offences. It all depends on how seriously Nigeria takes the issue.”
