NYSC MAY RELOCATES CORP MEMBERS FROM KANO AND KADUNA DUE TO BOKO HARAM BOMBING

As a result of the recent bombings in Kaduna and Kano states, the National Youth Service Corps may relocate corps members from the states for security reasons.

The Deputy Director, Public Relations of the NYSC, Mr. Peter Atilola, told SUNDAY PUNCH that though there was currently no plan to withdraw corps members en masse from the two states, corps members serving in those states could apply individually to be relocated on the grounds of worsened security situation.

“For now, there is no plan for relocation of corps members from Kaduna and Kano states, but if any corps member feels he or she is not safe in these places, he or she can apply and would be relocated,” he said.

It would be recalled that the Minister of Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi, had ordered NYSC not to post corps members to Borno and Yobe states late last year when there were frequent bombings and gun attacks by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, resulting in the death of hundreds of people.

The corps members who were initially posted to the states were directed to observe their orientation exercise in Benue and Nassarawa states, and were reposted to all states of the federation, except for Borno and Yobe States.

With some deadly bomb attacks in the past few months including Easter bomb attack which killed about 40 people, the security situation has drastically worsened in Kaduna and Kano states, resulting in some residents relocating to other parts of the country they considered safer.

The Special Adviser to the minister, Mr. Julius Ogunro, told SUNDAY PUNCH that the policy of the Ministry for Youth Development on the security of corps members remained that corps members would not be posted to any part of the country where their security could not be guaranteed.

Ogunro added that the policy would be applied to any state of the federation, just the way it was applied in the case of Borno and Yobe states.

In a recent interview with journalists, Abdullahi said the security of corps members was very important to Federal Government, noting that “the youth service scheme is not worth the life of anybody.”

He said, “One of the major initiatives we have taken is to develop a security alert system that maps the country—some kind of early warning—and to take decision on posting of corps members based on our awareness of the security circumstances in various locations.

“So we are not saying because NYSC is a national service, then we must post corps members to all parts of the country. Our pragmatic approach is to say wherever there are real or potential security challenges, we will not post corps members to such places.”

The minister also stated the NYSC would not have orientation camps in places where there was real and potential security challenge and would not post corps members to such places until there was an evidence of significant improvement.

UNIBEN FEMALE HOSTEL GONE ABLAZE WITH FIRE

Another school disaster was Thursday averted as hundreds of female students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) narrowly escaped death from an early hour inferno that gutted their three-storey hostel building.

We gathered that the fire started at about 1am from the last floor of the building and spread to other floors of the Hall II of the female hostel located inside the main campus of the university at Ugbowo.

Each of the floors of the three-storey hostel building is occupied by 200, 300 and 400 students respectively.

Although no life was lost in the inferno, several students sustained injuries while jumping from the top floors.

The injured ones were said to have been taken to the school’s health centre before they were finally transferred to an undisclosed hospital for further medical attention.

The Public Relations officer of UNIBEN, Harrison Osarenren confirmed the fire incident.

He said the fire started from a room inside the hostel, adding that the cause of the incident could be attributed to electrical fault.

He added that items in some of the affected rooms were destroyed and those that sustained burnt injuries were few and that those injured have been taken to hospital for treatment.

JOKE OF THE DAY | BILL GATES RECRUITMENT

Oghene was tired of working as a security guard so when he heard that Bill Gates was holding a mass interview to select a new head of operations for Microsoft Worldwide he thought..heck why not.

5,000 people showed up for the interview and Gates started by asking all those who couldn't write Java in binary code to leave the room. Oghene thought: what the hell dese pipo na mumu, who know weda I sabi or no sabi...2,000 people left but Oghene sat tight.

Gates continued by asking all those who had never supervised a thousand people or more to excuse themselves. As 2,000 more candidates trooped out, Oghene thought to himself: na lie oh, wetin I fit lose..I no dey kommot.

Gates then asked all those who did not possess at least two doctorate degrees, with one of them in Computer programming, to leave the room. Even though Oghene had dropped out of school at 15, he put on his haughtiest demeanour and thought: dem no go embarrass me jare, I go siddon remain for here.

Finally Gates asked all those who couldn't speak Ancient Mandarin Chinese to go. Only two candidates remained in the room. Oghene and one other. Bill Gates walked over to them and said: Well it seems you're the only two people who can speak Ancient Mandarin Chinese, I'd like to hear a conversation in that language...

...Oghene turned to the other candidate and muttered: Wahala don come oh, which kind kaka be dis....

....the other candidate turned and replied:....bros which kind wahala na?..you too fear, shine ya eye, make we just yarn dey go na ! mandarin mavo ? and they got the job

FA CUP SEMI FINAL IN PICTURE | TOTTENHAM 1 CHELSEA 5

Chelsea set up an FA Cup final against Liverpool after putting Tottenham to the sword with a ruthless beating at Wembley, but they were helped on their way by a goal which should never have been given.
Juan Mata put the Blues two up after the break in hugely controversial circumstances with referee Martin Atkinson awarding the goal despite replays showing the Spaniard's shot did not cross the line.
But that slice of luck could not detract from Chelsea's superiority.

Didier Drogba scored his seventh goal at Wembley to put the Blues ahead and, even though an incensed Spurs pulled one back straight after Mata's second through Gareth Bale, a cool finish from Ramires, a blistering 30-yard free-kick from Frank Lampard, and a late fifth from Florent Malouda wrapped up a huge win for the west London club and piled yet more misery on Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.
Many saw this evening's game as an audition for Redknapp at the home of English football, but his team were nowhere near clinical enough and Roberto Di Matteo's deserved the win.
Chelsea, now through to their 11th FA Cup final, raised their game to play like a team used to gracing the Wembley turf while Redknapp's team were wasteful and nervous.
Tottenham, who went in to this game with one win in their last eight league matches, will have no trophy to show for a season that started with so much hope but threatens to end with a big whimper.
Chelsea thoroughly deserved their win and will now go into Wednesday's game against Barcelona rightly full of confidence.
There was no indication this game would end up being a goal-fest during a nervy opening quarter in north London.

Drogba bustled his way past William Gallas to get on the end of a long punt from the back but he horribly mis-hit a volley and Cudicini gathered.
The Chelsea defence then backed off and allowed Scott Parker in, but Lampard put in a crucial block.

Careless defending from Kyle Walker then almost gifted Chelsea the lead. He dallied on the ball and Salomon Kalou took advantage, galloping 40 yards towards goal before finding Mata, but his touch let him down.
The Spurs fans thought their team had the breakthrough nine minutes before half-time when Rafael van der Vaart beat Petr Cech, but John Terry cleared off the line.

Emmanuel Adebayor then missed an easy chance. The former Arsenal striker slipped his marker to get in the path of Van der Vaart's looping cross but he failed to connect and the ball struck a post before bouncing to safety.
Tottenham were instantly made to pay for the mistake as Drogba fired Chelsea ahead in the 43rd minute.

The former Marseille man picked up Lampard's long ball and turned Gallas easily before firing a fierce rising shot past Carlo Cudicini.
Chelsea's second came in the 48th minute, but only in very controversial circumstances.

Ledley King's clearance from David Luiz's header fell in to the path of Mata, whose shot hit King on the line and Benoit Assou-Ekotto then cleared while laying on the turf.
The ball had not crossed the line, but referee Atkinson blew his whistle and awarded the goal, much to the fury of the Spurs players and supporters.

Van der Vaart led the vocal protests, shouting at the referee, while another group of Spurs players surrounded assistant Mick McDonough complaining at the decision.
Atkinson waved away their protests, however, and the goal stood.

Tottenham got themselves back in to the game six minutes later.
Scott Parker's brilliant slide-rule pass sent Adebayor free, he was sent tumbling by Petr Cech and Luiz, but the referee played advantage, allowing Bale to tap in to an empty goal from five yards.

Luiz was hurt in the challenge and was carried off on a stretcher to be replaced by Gary Cahill.

King headed just wide from Van der Vaart's corner as Spurs looked desperately for an equaliser in the final 20 minutes.
Redknapp looked to Jermain Defoe for inspiration, the England striker replacing Van der Vaart with 15 minutes to go, but the game soon fell to pieces for the men in white.

Ramires latched on to Mata's through-ball after being played onside by Walker and he coolly lifted the ball over the advancing Cudicini.
The Tottenham fans fell silent for the first time and they started leaving in their droves with 10 minutes to go thanks to a brilliant 30-yard free-kick from Lampard which dipped and swerved past Cudicini to make it 4-1.
Florent Malouda replaced Ramires and, worryingly for Di Matteo, Drogba hobbled off to be replaced by Fernando Torres.

Malouda robbed Gallas and wandered unchallenged in to the box, but his looping shot just missed the goal, and Torres at the back post.
Tottenham's frustration boiled over in injury-time when Parker lashed out at John Obi Mikel after the Nigerian kicked the England captain while he was on the floor. Both were booked.
The humiliation was complete moments later when Malouda got on the end of Mata's pass and slid past Cudicini for Chelsea's fifth.

64 YEARS OLD HEADMASTER RAPE A 15 YEARS OLD PUPIL IN GHANA

JOSEPH AMUZU, a 64-year-old headmaster of the Justice Nii Amaa Ollennu Memorial Basic School at La in Accra has been arrested by the police for defiling a 15-year-old class six pupil of his school on two occasions. In both incidents, Amuzu was said to have invited the unsuspecting victim to his office where he carried out the acts.

According to the police, last year, the headmaster invited the girl to his office one afternoon and defiled her. His victim had since been quiet over the incident. However, Amuzu’s secret act came out when six months ago, he invited the victim to his office again during break time and subjected her to another round of sex.

The minor, offended by the act, reported the matter to the Director of the School and a teacher. The matter was later reported to the victim’s mother who, in turn, reported it to the police.

Amuzu was picked up at his Dansoman residence on Thursday night by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) officers. The headmaster is currently in police custody. Chief Inspector Whoknows Attipoe, the station officer, said Amuzu would be charged when investigations were completed.

He also slept with her sister and posted copies of her nude body all over the campus. But the girl stood by him and loved him even more. Her friends persuaded her and tried to discourage her, but she kept putting up with him and even helped him excel in all his lectures and exams.

The girl walked up to him and told him ''you are finished. ‘Immediately the VC announced and told the guy, his papers were not found, that he never did his registration during the admission process. He had to start all over again after wasting 5years of hard work. However...The girl was the brain behind the missing papers.  How heartless some girls can be!
